Checking for Healthy Deer

Precautions are being taken at deer check stations across the state to ensure hunters are taking home healthy deer.

One Michigan deer has been found carrying chronic wasting disease, so the DNR check stations are trying to see if there are any more.

The deer check stations are sending hunted deer samples downstate to be tested for tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease among the animals.

The samples are submitted voluntarily and will continue to be checked through the entire season.
