Deer Season Means Big Business

The start of firearm deer season, which many of us locally consider something of a holiday, is only about 12 hours away.

Shops are hoping to see the season come out in their favor.

Many people have been rushing in and out of stores like Ishpeming’s Wilderness Sports.

From bullets to hunter-orange gear, hunters are focusing on the necessities for firearm season.

The Cravin’ Apple Scent attractant is proving to be a big hit for the Ishpeming business.

Even with those items being sold, stores like Wilderness Sports are seeing a decline in sales this year.

The gas price worry has receded with a big drop in price the last 2 months, but bait is still a few dollars more costly than a year ago.

Though there is a decline, some, like Ernie Lindsey, are optimistic, especially since weather conditions are looking good and it falls on Saturday this year.

With hopes of a high turnout for Opening Day, local businesses are still hopeful sales will get a boost as well.
