A U.P. hospital is about to embark on a new beginning.
Schoolcraft Memorial in Manistique has a new leader about to take over.
The hospital board has just hired George Montgomery as their new CEO.
He’s the president and CEO of Monroe Medical Health System in Monroe County downstate.
Montgomery is replacing Fred Makowski, who replaced Schoolcraft Memorial 4 months ago.
The hospital board had been planning a 100,000-square-foot expansion, but it recently downsized those plans to less than half that size.
Groundbreaking is still tentatively planned for next spring.
Schoolcraft Memorial is still waiting for a federal loan approval to pay for it.
The hospital is Schoolcraft County’s largest employer.
