A Chassell man is in stable condition tonight after his 3-year-old son accidentally shot him.

It happened shortly after 3:30 Saturday afternoon in Chassell near Pike River Road.

The Houghton County sheriff’s office says 37-year-old Albert Miller was out hunting when his son fell and hit the rifle that he was holding.

That caused it to fire.

A .22-calibre bullet hit Miller in the chest and penetrated one of his lungs.

Miller was taken to Portage Health in Hancock, where he underwent surgery.

He’s still there tonight in stable condition.
