Inmate Captured 3 Hours After Escaping
An Iron Mountain inmate is captured over the weekend after escaping from the Dickinson County Correctional Center.
The sheriff’s office says it was about 7am Central time Sunday when staff at the jail noticed that 20-year-old James Banks was gone.
He removed a metal grate that had been covering a window in his cell, broke the window and crawled out through it.
He was taken back into custody about 3 hours later at a home in Niagara, Wisconsin.
Banks was in jail on drug-related charges and being a habitual offender.
He’s in the Marinette County Jail until he can be extradited back to Michigan.
Local and state police on both sides of the state line joined the Dickinson and Marinette County Sheriff’s Departments in the investigation.
They believe Banks may also have outstanding arrest warrants in Marinette and in Marquette.
