State Police Trucking Safety Week
State police are keeping a closer eye on commercial vehicles.
This week is being set aside as Truck Safety Week across the state.
The inspections are part of the state police Special Transportation Enforcement Team.
The operations allow officers to make contact with drivers and companies who may not normally use weigh station.
The officers check to see if drivers are speeding, following too closely, using proper licenses or following regulations about hours of service.
State police did about 5,700 inspections last year of commercial vehicles traveling Michigan roads.
