Manistique Enrollment Down, School Sold
Declining Enrollment is an issue just about every school system in the U.P. is dealing with, and Manistique is one of those.
They have 1,040 students right now, and that’s down about 40 kids from last year.
But it’s not as much of a drop as school officials expected, so that means a little more state funding will be coming in than they thought they’d get.
They’ve also sold the former Lincoln Elementary School for $30,000.
It went up for sale in mid-2007 with a $100,000 price tag, but the district couldn’t find any takers willing to pay it.
School officials later put it up for sale again without a minimum bid.
Lincoln School dates back to 1931.
It closed last November when the new Emerald Elementary School opened.
