Prescription Drug Death Leads to Arrest

A Gladstone man dies of what police say is a likely prescription drug overdose.

There’s already been one arrest, and police say more are likely to follow.

Gladstone Public Safety says 20-year-old Andre Benson died early Thursday morning at a home on Superior Avenue.

The call came in a little before 4am, and the caller said Benson wasn’t breathing.

An officer found him in the back seat of a vehicle, called paramedics and gave Benson CPR, but Benson died at the scene.

The officers at the scene determined Benson may have been abusing prescription drugs.

Escanaba Public Safety, sheriff’s deputies, state police and UPSET officers joined the case at that point.

They’ve arrested an Escanaba man today and placed him in the Delta County Jail.

Police say he had Vicodin and other prescription drugs on him, along with marijuana and a large wad of cash.

His name isn’t available yet.
