Sex Offender Sweep

State police are going to spend a lot of time the rest of this month trying to track down Michigan sex offenders.

This is the 5th time since 2005 they’ve done Operation Verify.

It’s to find people who are violating the Michigan Sex Offender Registration Act.

State police and other agencies will be doing this from next Monday through the end of the month.

Anyone convicted of a misdemeanor sex offense in Michigan has to turn in their address to police in the first 2 weeks of every year.

If it’s a felony, they have to do not only that, but also check in with local police 4 times a year.

In the 4 prior sweeps, state police have found 2200 sex offenders who fell off the grid.
