A 6-year-old girl from the Keweenaw is still recovering tonight after being accidentally shot.

It happened a little before 5pm yesterday in Franklin Township.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department says she was shot outside her family’s home with a 20-gauge shotgun.

Relatives took her to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Calumet and called 911 from there.

The girl has since been transferred to Marquette General, but there’s no word on how she’s doing; updates on her condition are only being made available to family.

Although police do say the whole thing was an accident, they’re still looking into the circumstances of what led to it.
