Iron River Rodeo May Be Dead

After 41 years, the U.P. Championship Rodeo in Iron River may be dead.

The rodeo board says it will be dead if they can’t find more money and more volunteers.

It costs about $135,000 to put on the rodeo each year.

However, ticket sales were unexpectedly slow this year, leaving it more than $15,000 in the hole.

The planning work for next year is also behind schedule.

It hasn’t started yet, and it usually gets going before each year’s rodeo takes place in July.

The board says it also needs volunteers to keep the rodeo going because the interest level just doesn’t seem to be there anymore.

There’s a follow-up meeting next Tuesday at the Main Street Cafe in Iron River.

They’re asking everyone who wants to see the rodeo keep going to attend.
