Au Train Man Jailed for Gun Assault

An Alger County man will spend the next 8 months in jail for confronting a snowmobiler by firing a gun into a snowbank.

In August, 53-year-old Anthony Markowski of Au Train pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon.

Markowski told the court he’d had problems with snowmobilers taking down ‘Keep Out’ signs along his property.

In March, he confronted a snowmobiler on his private road who he thought had pulled down the signs.

After a verbal confrontation, Markowski fired a shot.

He said he did it out of fear the rider would try to run him down.

However, the road leading to his property has public access.

The victim’s father accused Markowski of blocking that road at gunpoint.
