Yooper Luge returns to Houghton this weekend

HOUGHTON — Get your best sled ideas out because this weekend, the legendary Yooper Luge returns to downtown Houghton.

Isle Royale Street will be transformed into a snow hill as kids from all ages try to win prizes in several categories.
The event almost didn’t happen this year due to the frigid temperatures. But Event Coordinator Robert Megowen says they decided to make it happen.

“I said “let’s go for it”. This will be fun. We have lots of volunteers to help. Kids, if they want to warm up, the Library is happy to take care of people. The Douglass House and Armando’s will be happy to keep people warm. It will keep the adults warm and the kids warm,” Megowen said.

Sleds must be made from soft materials, such as flexible plastic, cardboard and duck tape.
Registration begins on the corner of Isle Royale Street and Shelden Avenue at 12:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 1:00 p.m.
