YMCA of Marquette County partners with physical therapy business

NEGAUNEE — The YMCA of Marquette County is partnering with a local business to better serve residents in the western end of the county.

Active Physical Therapy now has an office in the West End YMCA facility. It gives Y members a chance to have injury screenings done, and have various health questions answered, in-house. It also may land the Y some new members from among Active’s clients.

“We bring some new people in,” Active Physical Therapy physical therapist Jaime Green said. “They get to see and learn how to use all the equipment, and once they’re done with their rehab, it offers them a great transition to a membership at the Y, which allows them to use all the equipment they’ve learned how to use. It gives them a great fitness/wellness plan and program for the rest of their life.”

The new West End Y includes rooms for wellness classes and youth activities that were lacking in the facility it replaced. The partnership dovetails nicely with the recent expansion.

“We do have a lot of programs that focus on chronic disease and serve older populations, so it’s a good partnership with those, as well as the different sports teams that we work with, providing services for,” YMCA West End program leader Rachel Berglund said.

The West End YMCA is in the former Range Bank building on Iron Street in downtown Negaunee. The YMCA of Marquette County paid well over a million dollars to renovate the building and move the West End facility into it several months ago.
