Woodson Calls 2011 Packers D 'Anemic'

The Green Bay Packers are on their way to San Diego for their first preseason game against the Chargers Thursday night.

Longtime defensive back Charles Woodson is calling last season’s Packers defense ‘anemic’ and pledges it will be better this season.

Woodson says QB Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the Packers offense was so productive last year that it lulled the defense into overconfidence.

He says that false sense of security hurt the team in its playoff loss to the New York Giants after a 15-1 regular season.

Woodson tells Yahoo! Sports about the atmosphere in the Green Bay locker room at halftime against the Giants, “…nobody thought we would lose that game. …Maybe we should have panicked. But we didn’t. We just felt like, ‘Hey, at the end of the day, the offense will put up enough points, we’ll win the game and move on’. That was probably to our detriment.”

The Detroit Lions have their first preseason game Friday night, when they host the Cleveland Browns.
