Women’s health takes center stage Saturday

ISHPEMING — An annual expo promoting women’s health will take place in Ishpeming this Saturday.

UP Health System – Bell is hosting the seventh annual Women’s Health Expo. The free event promises to be both informative and entertaining for those in attendance.

“It is focused on women and women’s health, and it’s an opportunity for them to come and learn, as well as get pampered a little,” said Kathy Harrington, Director of Provider Services at the hospital. “We have some manicures and massages, and there’s also in addition to people offering healthy food items, we also have some jewelry vendors and clothing vendors, so it’s just — it’s going to be fun.”

A number of healthcare professionals will be providing lectures on subjects ranging from healthy eating to mental health and beyond. Visitors can find out information about their health from both new and returning lecturers.

“I’ve done this one in the past, but I’ve made some modifications because I found that women had a lot of questions. It was pretty heavily attended, and I thought it was worth reviewing again and bringing more current, up–to–date information on it,” added Dr. Kelly Menge, an OBGYN at UP Health System – Bell. “It’s an opportunity for women to have any question — health–related — addressed, and maybe we can even point them in the right direction if it’s something that we can’t necessarily help them with.”

Free health screenings will also be taking place at the expo. The expo runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. You can pre–register online, although it’s not a requirement. Click here to find out more.
