UPDATE: Name released in fatal semi vs. pedestrian accident

UPDATE — 11:00 a.m. January 18, 2015 (EDT): Police have released the identity of the woman who died in a pedestrian vs. semi-truck accident Saturday in Escanaba.

The woman has been identified at 65-year-old Judith Gurney of Wells Township. The name of the semi-truck driver who hit Gurney is not being released.

Escanaba Public Safety is still investigating the incident.


 

ESCANABA — A woman is dead after she was hit by a semi-truck Saturday morning in Escanaba.

At approximately 11:15 a.m., Escanaba Public Safety was dispatched to the 2300 block of North Lincoln road on US-2/41 on a report of a semi-truck hitting a pedestrian. The pedestrian hit by the truck was taken to St. Francis Hospital and then to U.P. Health System – Marquette, where she later died from her injuries.

Police believe that the woman may have intentionally stepped out in front of the south bound semi-truck. Her name is not being released at this time.

The investigation into the accident is on-going.
