STANTON TOWNSHIP — One woman was airlifted for treatment of injuries after a boating accident in Stanton Township.

Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department say the incident happened at a dock belonging to a residence on Rocky Shores Road around 5:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon. 55-year-old Kevin Geshel of Painesdale was attempting to maneuver his 16-foot boat into a friend’s dock in the Portage Canal when he struck the end of the dock. The boat became lodged under the end of the dock where his wife, 53-year-old Lori Geshel, was sitting.

Lori Geshel was transported by Mercy Ambulance to UP Health System – Portage and later flown to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment of her injuries. Police say the accident is still under investigation.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Mercy Ambulance and Stanton Township First Responders.
