Woman dies of injuries from car accident
SKANDIA TOWNSHIP — A Delta County woman has died from injuries she sustained after a car accident Thursday afternoon.
According to the Michigan State Police, a Marquette County Road Commission maintenance crew had traffic stopped Thursday just after 2:15 p.m. They were working on the shoulder of the northbound lane of US-41 near Dukes Road.
Shana Deshambo, 33 of Palmer, was stopped on US-41 when her 2007 Ford Garda armored truck was hit from behind by Donna Jaksic, 66 of Escanaba, driving a 2012 Chevy Impala.
Police say Jaksic did not stop within an assured clear distance. Jaksic was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision and later died of injuries as a result from the crash.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
