Woman dies in head-on car accident
NIAGARA, WI — A two-car accident Sunday afternoon in Niagara claimed the life of a woman from Wisconsin.
The accident happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Highway 131 near Wishman Road and West Road. The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office reports that a southbound sedan slid across the centerline and struck a northbound SUV head on.
Sixty-eight year old Dorothy Toltzman of Beecher, WI, was a passenger in the sedan. She was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the impact. Toltzman was taken to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, where she later died as a result of her injuries.
The driver of the SUV, 32-year-old Matthew Haupt of Pembine, WI was uninjured. A passenger in his vehicle was transported to the hospital with multiple injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. At the time of the accident, the highway was covered with 2-3 inches of wet snow, which made the highway slippery.
The accident was Marinette County’s third traffic fatality in 2016.
