WISCONSIN — The Gray Wolf population has reached an all–time high in a nearby state.

Data released Thursday from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources showed that the number of gray wolves in the state is at the most it has ever been.

A count took place during the 2015–2016 winter and estimated between 866 and 897 wolves in the state.

The wolves are spread across northern Wisconsin in 222 packs.

The count represents a 16% increase from last year’s wolf count.
