Witness in Iron County Court Case Turns Up Dead

The death of an Iron County woman last week is being considered a homicide.

The county Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of 81-year-old Joyce Johnson of Stambaugh Township.

Police say Johnson was scheduled to testify as a witness at a trial on Tuesday of last week but didn’t show up at court.

When deputies performed a well–being check at her home, they found her deceased.

According to court documents, Johnson was scheduled to testify at the trial of David Anthony Levack of Kingsford.

Levack was accused of stealing jewelry from Johnson’s home nearly three years ago.

Authorities believe there’s no increased risk to public safety as a result of this incident.
