A Wisconsin man is recovering from injuries sustained during an airplane crash in Marinette County Tuesday morning.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office says the plane went down around 11:18 a.m. just west of Crivitz on the north side of County Road W in a field off of Pheasant Drive in Stephenson. Police say the pilot, who was the lone occupant of the aircraft, was located near the small plane, complaining of back pain. The Crivitz rescue team then took the 66-year-old Lena, Wisconsin man to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette for treatment.

The plane was believed to be en route to the Iron Mountain area when it developed engine problems. Police say the origin of the flight is unknown at this time.

Aviation authorities have been notified and the scene will be secured by the Sheriff’s Office until the investigation is complete.
