Winter Weather returns to the UP
MARQUETTE COUNTY — It’s the early April Fools joke that nobody wanted. Winter weather returned to the area today.
Upper Michigan residents here in Marquette County had a slow go on the roads for a part of the day. The snow started falling in many areas around the noon time hour.
Three to six inches of fresh snow was forecasted, but much of the snow didn’t stick to the ground. The weather forecast looks a little bleak going into the weekend, as meteorologists are calling for more snow and colder temperatures.
“The recent shift to a cooler pattern is not that atypical for something that we would see at the end of March and into early April,” said Matt Zika, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“While it’s going to be well below normal temperature wise for the upcoming weekend, it really isn’t anything outrageous for this time of year. Temperatures this weekend will be 10 to 15 degrees below average. The big thing will be the fact that the wind will be blowing quite a bit on Saturday, so that will make it feel considerably colder,” he added.
Zika added that over the next couple of weeks we should have more mild and warmer weather days than what we’ve been seeing lately.
