MARQUETTE — The above average temperatures and weather are the cause of a winter event cancellation this year.
The Marquette Downtown Development Authority announced that the Downtown Showdown Rail Jam, which was scheduled for this Saturday, February 20th, is cancelled. DDA officials say the snow that would be hauled in could not withstand this weekends above freezing temperatures and rain. The event will return next year.
An alternative event, the Marquette Mountain Double Down Compound Showdown, is schedule for this Saturday. The event offers competitive and open jams for skiers and snowboarders alike. The open jam is for skiers and snowboarders alike, it runs from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., followed by the competitive ski jam at 5:00 p.m., the competitive snowboard jam at 6:00 p.m. and the finals at 7:00 p.m.
Competitors will compete for cash prizes. There will also be prizes from Marquette Mountain, Double Trouble DJ’s and the Compound. Registration will take place at Marquette Mountain with a $10 fee for open jam and $20 for competitive events.

Yeti Fest which was originally scheduled for this Friday, February 19th on the 100 block of South Front Street is moving to the Wild Rover at 142 W. Washington Street. This event is still scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
