Wildfire Scorches Mansfield Township

DNR fire crews are getting some help to tackle a wildfire in the northeastern corner of Iron County.

It’s being called the Rock Dam Fire, and it’s actually been burning since lightning struck a tree last weekend.

The DNR says the Rock Dam Fire has scorched about 120 acres in Mansfield Township near Deer Foot Lodge Road.

At this point, the flames are about 60% contained.

The recent rain helped keep the blaze under control as about 2 dozen DNR firefighters worked on it, and more showed up today.

2 firefighters have been treated for inhaling the thick smoke, which has been reported seen from Crystal Falls, 15 miles away.

A cabin is the only structure in the area, and it’s already been secured.

We’ll have more about the cleanup effort on Monday on UGN News.
