GARDEN TOWNSHIP — Firefighters are cleaning up the scene of a wildfire that struck a field just south of Garden Township on Sunday.

Fire Control officials from the DNR Forest Resource Division were called to the scene, just north of Fairport, around 1:30.
DNR officers and fire fighters from Garden Township, Inwood Township and Nahma Township battled the fire all afternoon, and continued with cleanup today.

The flames swept across the grassy area into a nearby woods, where it was slowed by wet ground. There were six structures and six outbuildings threatened in the blaze, but none were harmed and there were no injuries reported.
