Wildcats look to rebound vs. Warriors

The Northern Michigan University football team won their first game of the season against Findlay, 41-31, back on Sept. 14th. Since then, NMU has lost five straight games.

The Wildcats will look to put an end to that losing skid on Saturday, when they face Wayne State at the Superior Dome. Freshman quarterback Shaye Brown will make his second collegiate start for the ‘Cats.

Last week at Grand Valley State against a tough Lakers defense, Brown completed 64 percent of his passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. NMU will need another performance like that from Brown against the Warriors.

“Shaye did a great job for us,” said Wildcats head coach Chris Ostrowsky. “He did a lot of positive things. I’m proud of him. He’s a student of the game. I’m excited to see him grow and put a good product on the field on Saturday and give it the best shot we can.”

“Paul Winters does a great job of coaching that football team,” said Ostrowsky about his coaching counterpart. “They are two years removed from the national championship game, so there are a lot of football players on that team who played in that game. They have a lot of depth, a lot of age, so they’re a good opponent for us.”

“Shaye is developing,” said Wildcats redshirt freshman running back Keon Collier. “He’s still young, we’re all young. We’re just trying to get after it on offense. We have to keep at it, keep making third down conversions and eventually drive down the field and get in to the end zone. We’re just ready to play, that’s what it’s all about.”

Kickoff between the Warriors and the Wildcats is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
