Wildcats, Huskies get set for regular season finale

MARQUETTE — Thursday night, the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team hosts Northern Michigan. Last time these teams met, it was the Lady Wildcats getting the upset win. NMU has already locked up a playoff spot. But as coach Troy Mattson says, there are still a lot of reasons to come out and play hard.

“The one thing you want to do at this time in the year anyway is to be playing good on the road because we’re going to have to go on the road to play either the number one or number two seed in the conference. So we would like to prep ourselves from that standpoint to make sure that we understand how to win or try to win games on the road against really good basketball teams. Obviously, Michigan Tech is a really good basketball team and we would really like to prepare ourselves to see if we can compete on their home court with them,” Mattson said.

Their last game did come down to the final possession as the Lady Wildcats were able to stop a Danielle Blake game–winning shot. And this time around, Coach Mattson says there will be some slight adjustments made to the game plan.

“We need to be able to slow Kylie Moxley down right now. She has been on a tear in the league against no matter who she’s been playing so we need to really concentrate on how are we going to slow her down a little bit. As for the other things, how we want to deal with their guards and Dani Blake, we want to make sure that we’re very consistent with what we did last time and hopefully it will work again,” Mattson said.

Tip–off for the game is at 5:30pm and the men’s game will be played right after at 7:30.
