Wildcats go 2-0 in exhibition play

The Northern Michigan University hockey team scored three goals in each of their two preseason games over the weekend.

NMU defeated the U.S. Men’s National Development Team, 3-2 on Saturday. C.J. Ludwig, Erik Higby, and Cohen Adair each scored a goal for the Wildcats.

On Sunday, the Wildcats erased a 2-0 first period deficit to comeback and defeat Laurentian University, 3-2. Junior forward Ryan Daugherty scored two goals for NMU.

With their preseason schedule now over, the Wildcats will begin their 36-game regular season schedule later this week.

“We’re just mixing and matching a bunch of guys. We’re trying to see who works best with who,” said captain C.J. Ludwig.”We want to play hard, show up every night and give it our all,” added Ludwig.

“It was a good start,” said NMU hockey coach Walt Kyle after his team’s victory on Saturday. “We need it(the game) as a conditioner. We needed it to evaluate some of our guys, and we got off to a good start in that regard.”

NMU begins the regular season on Friday, with a two-game series at Wisconsin against the Badgers.
