Wildcats compete at Titan Challenge

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Northern Michigan University track & field team competed Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge for their final tuneup before traveling to the GLIAC Indoor Championships Feb. 28 – March 1 at the SVSU Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats finished fourth of six teams with 69 points.

The highlight of the meet was sophomore Jasmine Williams who broke her own NMU record in the shot put with a throw of 13.49m which was an NCAA provisional mark and good for second in the event. Williams also finished second in the weight throw with a throw of 16.62m which was also a personal best and an NCAA provisional mark.

“We used this meet as a tune up for the GLIAC championships for a smaller group of student-athletes wile resting some more at home,” said NMU head coach Jenny Ryan. “We had more great performances and results by many of our athletes.”

NMU junior Avadon James had a solid day winning the 200 meter dash clocking a 26.14 in the event. James also finished second in the 60 meter dash clocking a 7.89.

Wildcats freshman Kieren Becker won the 800 meter run clocking a time of 2:25.49 while freshman Clara Churchill was fourth with a time of 2:27.99.

NMU junior Danielle Brzezinski finished fourth in the 400 meter run clocking a 1:00.46.

NMU sophomore Xavier Donajkowski finished fifth in the mile clocking a time of 5:35.85 while junior Catherine Swiderski was sixth in 5:36.64.
