Wildcat skiers win College Cup
HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Nordic skiing team won the College Cup at the 2015 U.S. Cross Country Championships with a score of 800 edging out the University of Vermont who scored 755 for second place. The women earned 406 points towards the cup, while the men chipped in the other 394. This is the second consecutive year the Wildcats have won the College Cup. Sophomore Fredrik Schwencke was also named a grand champion for scoring 70 points in the freestyle after placing third with a time of 43:13.21 and 72 after winning the classic with a time of 4:30.09 for a grand total of 142.
Senior Kyle Bratrud would crack the top-five on the men’s side with 72 points after winning the freestyle with a time of 42:01.65 and 56 in the classic for his 19th place finish in 4:41.63 for a total of 128.
On the women’s side, senior Jordyn Ross and freshman Vivian Hett finished tied for second for the grand championship after each scored 137. Ross would score 72 points after winning the freestyle in 32:06.90 and added 65 in the classic for her eighth place finish with a time of 5:31.25, while Hett finished with 66 in the freestyle for a seventh place finish in 32:52.89 and 71 in the classic after placing second with a time of 5:23.56.
