Wild Fire Near Round Lake

As of 4:00 p.m., the forest fire near Round Lake has been contained, with a few hot spots remaining. No property has been damaged in the 60 acre fire. Fire crews will remain on site until the fire is completely extinguished.

A lighting strike is thought to be responsible for a wild fire that started in a White and Red Pine Plantation near Round Lake in Nahma Township.

The fire has burned about 60 acres so far, firefighters from Delta and Alger County are on scene along with crews from the DNR and U.S. Forrest Service.

Residents are asked to stay out of the area due to the number of emergency vehicles needed at the scene.

Both Delta and Alger Counties have opened Emergency Operation Centers to monitor the situation.

At this time there are no evacuations planned or any structures that are in danger.
