Wetmore Pond Body Identified

Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post have identified the body found in Marquette Township last night.

They say it was 25-year-old Amy Luella Janson of Marquette.

Her body was found in Wetmore Pond, off of County Road 550, shortly after 6:30 Thursday night.

Janson’s family reported her missing back in May.

At that time, her backpack was found in the pond.

Police searched the area with divers and K-9 units, but they say they never could effectively search the entire pond because of the depth of the silt in the pond and poor visibility.

Then, last night, a group of hikers called police to say a body was floating in the pond.

Janson’s body was taken to Marquette General and was autopsied this morning.

Dental records were used to identify her.

State Police say that although the incident is still under investigation, they don’t suspect foul play. The cause of Janson’s death has not been released.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, the Marquette Township Fire Department and NMU Public Safety assisted in the response and recovery.
