Westwood dance team gears up for competition

WEST ISHPEMING — The Westwood High School Dance team is competing in the MI Kids Can Dance Contest, created by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

There are thirty teams competing. The top three will get to learn a routine with the Piston’s Mob Squad, and the top team will perform it at half time during a Piston’s game.

“That would be so much fun. It would be incredible for all of us,” said Faith LeRoy, senior and co-captain of the team.

The girls entered the competition by posting a 15 second video to Instagram, which was then posted on the Blue Cross Blue Shield website. The team has done a lot of competitions in the U.P. and Wisconsin, but they’ve never been downstate or to Detroit. Faith says the team has been working hard and hopes their hip-hop dance moves will help them do well in the competition.

“I love performing at half-time of all the games and, you know, we’re together so much. This is an eleven month season so it really is like a family,” she added.

Voting ends tomorrow at midnight and you can vote for your favorite team once every 24 hours. Vote for Westwood here.
