Western U.P. Flu Shots

Ontonagon Area Schools were closed today and will be closed again tomorrow due to a high amount of student illness.

That makes them the second Copper Country school district to close in as many weeks.

Baraga Area Schools were closed for a similar reason last week.

Western U.P. Health Department medical director Dr. Terry Frankovich says that since many of the students are reporting flu–like symptoms, now may be the time to get a flu vaccination.

Frequent handwashing, covering your mouth when you cough and staying home when you are ill can also help stop the spread of the virus.

And despite the misconception that getting a flu shot can cause the flu, that is not the case.

Flu vaccinations are recommended for everyone six months and older.
