Western U.P. community gets new EMS coverage

WATERSMEET — When Watersmeet residents call for an ambulance, a different crew will now be coming out to provide potentially lifesaving services.

Aspirus MedEvac began serving the community of Watersmeet this weekend to cover a gap created when Watersmeet officials declined to renew the contract with Conover, Wisconsin’s EMS service. Officials say Aspirus MedEvac currently has two EMS crews at bases in Iron River and Crystal Falls, and on-call crews can be called in for support.

The service provides Advanced Life Support capabilities and access to the nearby Aspirus Hospitals.
