West Branch Likely Getting More ‘W’ Help

West Branch Township will likely walk away from the Marquette County Board meeting tonight with extra money in its pocket.

The township owns the ‘W’, the South County Community and Fitness Center.

They lease it to the K.I. Sawyer Community Association.

Last week, the county board talked about lowering the interest rate on the loan the township took out to buy the ‘W’.

They’re expected to approve it in a vote tonight, dropping the rate from 5% to 2%.

The county board is also joining area prosecutors and police, protesting the plans to close the Marquette state police crime lab.

The next-closest facility is in Grayling, a little over 250 miles away.

UGN News will be on hand at the meeting tonight.

We’ll have more about it on the UGN News at 10 over on the CW 5, and right here on our Late News at 11.
