Wednesday Weather — 4/16/14

Temperatures were cold again today across the viewing area, as highs reached the upper 20s and lower 30s. Those temps were relatively warmer than the lower single digits and sub-zero readings we saw in some places this morning. However, expect milder air ahead of us but also much more snow.

For that reason, winter storm warnings are in effect for Marquette, Dickinson, Iron, Baraga, Houghton, Ontonagon, and Gogebic counties until 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, and winter weather advisories are in effect for Alger, Delta, and Menominee counties also until 2 p.m. Thursday. Snow amounts are expected to be around five to eight inches in the warning zones, with those in western U.P. possibly seeing more than a foot. For the advisory zones, expect much less snow, with only three to five inches possible.

The heaviest snow should fall for us tonight. Lows drop to the upper 20s and lower 30s with southeast winds breezy at times between 10 and 20 miles per hour. Thursday, temperatures fight their way above the freezing mark as snow showers, along with a few rain drops, begin to
taper off after the noon hour. High reach the upper 30s and lower 40s while winds stay brisk at 10 to 20 miles per hour from the southeast. Tomorrow night, winds decrease to 5 to 10 miles per hour as winds turn and come out of the northwest. Most of the moisture pushes out of here, but skies will remain cloudy as lows drop to the middle 20s.

Friday finally brings us a quiet day across the area, as clouds break up and temps reach the upper 30s and lower 40s.  Be careful traveling tonight and tomorrow.
