Weather Forecast 3.18.14

A small strip of snow dominated the region for most of the day, dropping about 1 to 3 inches on viewing area. Also temperatures were warmer as highs reached the upper 20’s and lower 30’s.

Tonight temps drop to the middle 20’s while moisture arrives mostly in the form of snow with some of us along the shores of Lake Michigan changing to freezing rain and snow mix by 8:00 a.m. Snow accumulations reach 1 to 2 inches from Iron Mountain to Marquette and locations eastward, while west of that line some of us could receive up to 4 inches during the night.

However during the day on Wednesday, the disturbance eases just to our south and east, which will bring the moisture source closer. That will cause heavier snow showers, which will be the main precipitation type during the day hours tomorrow, with those same areas around Lake Michigan seeing a mix of freezing rain and snow. Highs top off in the lower 30’s, while N winds will blow between 15 to 20 mph. Additional accumulations for the day will be between 2 to 4 inches.

By tomorrow night the system starts to move east, colder air rushes in, and all the precipitation changes back over to snow. Accumulations won’t be high, as we are only expected to get between 1 to 2 inches. Lows fall to the lower 20’s with winds now coming from the NW at 15 to 25 mph. Snow showers linger into Thursday before clearer skies arrive Thursday night. Stay safe!!
