WCHA Says NMU Hockey Will Join in 2013

Northern Michigan University hockey will be rejoining the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 2013.
The WCHA put out a statement this afternoon saying the 5 athletic directors that will remain in the league in 2013 all support NMU\’s request to join the conference.
The Wildcats\’ application for membership will be formally approved next week, according to the league statement.
NMU has been part of the WCHA previously, from 1984 to 1997.
NMU President Dr. Les Wong told ABC 10 yesterday that he and other university officials had been evaluating since March what conference the hockey program should play in.
The formation of the Big Ten as a hockey conference, announced in March, led them to start the evaluation.
And the rumors that began swirling last week about the newly-formed National Collegiate Hockey Conference sped up the process.
The formations of those two new leagues have hurt the CCHA and WCHA — all of their members but one will come from those two existing leagues.
