Two rescued in Lake Superior near Marquette

The rescue of the two men on Lake Superior was performed by the Marquette City Fire Department. They were found on an ice flow near the mouth of the Carp River along U.S. 41.

Agencies that reported to the incident were: the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, Medi-Ride 156, Marquette General Hospital, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

April 19, 10:20 p.m.
Two men rescued from a floating piece of ice off the shore of Marquette have been taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment of hypothermia. The two were on the ice for at least an hour in below freezing temperatures with strong winds and snow.

The incident was reported at about 8:45 p.m. Friday along U.S. 41 south of Marquette on Lake Superior near the mouth of the Carp River.

Marquette City Fire Crews and the U. S. Coast Guard from Station Marquette responded to the scene. Additional details on this story will be posted as they develop.
