Waste Water Plant Work Almost Done
Marquette’s waste water treatment plant has been a hive of activity for the last year and a half, but the long-awaited improvement work going on there is just about done.
The improvement project is costing about $15 million.
A large loan from the State of Michigan is paying for it.
The plant’s advisory board got together this afternoon for an update on the progress.
The outdoor work should wrap up within the next 2 weeks.
Chocolay Township, Marquette Township and Marquette city residents who use the plant will be paying off 20-year bonds to repay the loan.
There will still be some minor work to do, but it’ll all be indoor work and it should be completely done by December 1st.
It’s been nearly 30 years since the facility last had this kind of work done.
Before the upgrade, the plant wasn’t meeting quality standards for the water it releases back into the Carp River.
