Waiting Game for NMU Prof Contract Talks

Northern Michigan University administrators now have to wait to go back to the bargaining table with the professors’ union.

NMU’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors rejected a contract offer Wednesday night.

Among the concerns of faculty who voted ‘no’ — the school may not have enough faculty, class sizes may be too large, and they may have to do more academic research without devoting any more resources to it.

The next step is for the AAUP to receive feedback from rank-and-file members.

Then the 2 sides can re-start the contract talks.

NMU President Dr. Les Wong says both sides have been meeting for months over some major issues they both have concerns about, and they’ve put a lot of effort into resolving those.

UGN News has tried to reach the union for comment, but our phone calls have not been returned.

A timeline for the negotiations is still being developed.
