Victim found Wednesday in Marquette Co. identified
An autopsy has been completed on the body of a man found in Marquette County Wednesday morning. The Michigan State Police, Negaunee Post, say the man has been identified as Samuel Louis Longtine, 56, of Skandia.
The exact cause of death is pending toxicology results, but officials say the autopsy conducted today at Marquette General Hospital by the Marquette County Medical Examiner revealed no signs of foul play.
His body was found near his burned pickup truck in Skandia Township just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police say the vehicle had caught fire and burned. Both the man and vehicle were found within a mile of the man’s residence on County Road JH in West Branch Township. He had been reported missing Tuesday evening.
The investigation revealed Longtine was likely plowing snow on his property when the vehicle caught fire. While his death was initially reported by police as being suspicious, authorities said Thursday the incident and death was accidental.
Detectives from the Negaunee Post, the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall and Marquette General EMS assisted at the scene.
