Veterans Mall rededicated

A cavalry of supporters honored the men and women who have served our country earlier today at the Marquette Area Veterans Memorial Mall.

The mall was built eleven years ago in response to the 9/11 attacks on America. It has been rededicated every year since to pay tribute to those who lost their lives while protecting us, and show the community’s resolve and support for the American way.

“It’s nice to see the community come out to a patriotic event on our nation’s birthday. That means a lot to us. It’s part of the celebration of the great experiment of the United States of America. Every year, we remember what we had to do to become a nation. We do things to commemorate those that served along the way and sacrificed to keep our country free,” noted Michael Trickey, a veteran and American Legion Post 44 Commander.

The American Legion has led the way, brick by brick, to maintain the Veterans Mall and commemorate a new set of veterans each year. Every paving stone is engraved with up to three lines honoring a fallen soldier.

Anyone can nominate a veteran of their choosing by going online to and filling out a brick donation form. All entrees must be submitted three months prior to the occasion on March 31st.
