Veterans History Project

If you want to help document the experiences of U.P. veterans for generations to come, the Marquette County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program wants to hear from you.

RSVP started a local version of the national Veterans History Project in 2004.

Volunteers interviewed many veterans about their wartime experiences.

The program re–started about a year ago after a long absence.

RSVP director Amy Mattson says there are more than a dozen Marquette County veterans waiting to be interviewed, and to clear up that backlog, the program is looking for volunteers to conduct the interviews.

Each interview generally takes from 30 to 90 minutes.

A tape and a transcript of each interview is sent to the Library of Congress, and the veteran being interviewed also receives a copy.

Anyone interested in sharing their military story, or becoming a volunteer, has two ways to get involved.

Mattson says you can call her at (906) 485–1782, or, you can e–mail her at amattson@mqtco.org.
