ESCANABA — It’s all about veterans, women veterans that is, Saturday in Delta County.

The Escanaba Veterans Center is partnering with the Oscar G. Johnson V–A Medical Center to put on an Information Fair and Listening Session just for women veterans. There will be informational groups focusing on VA benefits, health care services, counseling services, and more.

VA Public Affairs Officer Brad Nelson says that women veterans are the fastest growing population in the military.

“We are seeing an increase in women veterans here in the Upper Peninsula. Here at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, we serve anywhere from 1,200–1,400 women veterans a year,” said Nelson.

“We’re going to have special speakers there talking about women veterans programs and the services available to them. Following up with that is going to be a listening session, where women veterans will be forwarded the opportunity to provide feedback to out Women’s Veterans Program Manager as well as the Veterans Center on how they can be better served by the VA,” Nelson added.

The Information Fair and Listening Session takes place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
