Veterans’ Day Remembrance

Local residents take time to honor American veterans and those currently in uniform.

A community Veterans’ Day observance took place at the Jacobetti Veterans’ Home in Marquette, where veterans were grateful for the recognition and the community support.

It serves as a reminder that veterans deserve attention all year round, not just on the 11th day of the 11th month.

November 11th was set aside as a holiday because it was on that date 90 years ago that the peace accord ending World War 1 on the Western Front was signed.

For that same reason, the day is known as Armistice Day in much of the world, and it used to go by that name in the U.S as well.

This is just one of a series of remembrance events going on across the Upper Peninsula and around the country.
