Verso Paper Renewable Energy Upgrades

A Dickinson County company has just cut its energy costs while also shrinking its carbon footprint.

The Verso Paper mill in Quinnesec has completed $45 million worth of renewable energy upgrades.

The company has upgraded its existing boiler.

A new wood biomass handling system and a new turbine generator have also been installed.

The upgrades are delivering enough green energy to power 18,000 homes for a year.

Verso officials say more than 95% of the electricity the mill generates for itself now comes from wood biomass.

The company also monitors its wood biomass harvesting to make sure it meets forest sustainability standards.

Verso had been building the wood biomass project for more than a year.
